Paperlike used automation to serve over 500K customers while working 30 hours a week

Optimizing the experience of drawing and writing on an iPad is what Paperlike set out to do. In a small and agile team with limited tech expertise—a highly efficient operating model was critical for the business. As Paperlike’s sales increased, the right balance had to be found to keep up with demand while maintaining a lean team. 

Today, with an ecommerce team of only six (including founder Jan Sapper), Paperlike operates 30 hour work weeks but boasts massive growth numbers. How? Paperlike relies on Shopify Plus tools (Flow, Scripts, Launchpad) and apps to automate the majority of tasks and eliminate as much manpower as possible. By doing so, Paperlike is able to run a truly international business without impacting its flexible work culture and small team.

We can run a global business with six people because Shopify Plus enables us to automate so much of the work. That allows us to focus on creating amazing products that people love, provide outstanding customer support, and still do amazing marketing because we’re not worried about our technology.
